Labyrinth

Selected for a group exhibition (Utopian Thresholds, ExpoFAUD, 2022)
The Covid-19 pandemic, social isolation, and profound internal transformations were the environment of the photography essay Labyrinth. As a metaphor, the images represent the process of self-recognition on a personal and interpersonal level. As a creative process, it was a new way to observe the place where I was every day, my own home.
The essay starts with abstract images. Relating to the beginning of a self-discovery process, only small parts of the self are seen and understood. Moving forward in the essay – and in the self-discovery process – we begin to recognize small pieces of the photographs. By the end, the need to look outwards of ourselves emerges. The essay culminates in the photography of three people on the top of a building.
Covid-19 brought a lot of internal transformations, and my own home was a way to express it. Not only did the way of seeing my home change, but the place itself was the medium to represent the change.
Essay selected for the Utopian Thresholds group exhibition for ExpoFAUD at the Architecture and Urbanism School of the University of São Paulo exhibition (São Paulo, 2022).
